We met Clint through voluntary work at a Christian camp for kids aged 9 12 years old. We enjoyed working with this age group and were amazed how open they were to hear the word of Jesus. We became aware of the need for reaching this age group in our own town, and the more we talked and thought about it, the more convicted we became of what we could do. We decided to, with the full support of our church, start up a group for any child in the school years 6,7 & 8. We work on a fortnightly basis, and our night consists of games, fear factor challenges often involving food, supper and a talk relevant to them definitely bible based info. Clint got us started with some basic ideas, a games book, discussion topics, and talks, an idea of basic equipment needed and we were off. We have been running this group for a year and a half now. We have great support people within our church who come and give practically; we also have great prayer support. Advertising through school newsletters seems to work well, and our roll is up to 70 kids, with anything from 20 to 35 turning up on any given night. We thoroughly recommend this kind of group being run in your town, a fortnightly group works well, it gives you time between sessions to be organized, especially if you have a young family. It is exciting to see these kids get to know their personal Lord and Saviour, and to know that you are working to grow the Kingdom as we have been called to do.
Our church pastor has taken things one step further, and started up a group alongside ours, aimed at school age children 3, 4 & 5. This has come about due to younger siblings wanting to come to our group, so we decided to do something for them. It is run on the same nights and timed to accommodate the parents who taxi them all round, and a similar format is used. Who knows where God will take this, were up for the ride, are you?
